Atmospheres in Photography
By Rodrigo Pantoja Labiaga
This exhibition delves into the creation of atmospheres in art through the medium of photography. Heavily inspired on Surrealism and Metaphysics, each of the nine artworks comprising a total of eighteen photographs attempt to capture spontaneous moments that frozen in frame, create atmospheres that evoke distinct sensations. Whether pleasing or discomforting, mellow or hostile, palpable or eerie, the sensations in each composition result from the manipulation of light, color and shape, sometimes played with deliberately, yet sometimes not. All photographs intentionally share a similar dark, flat aesthetic as I focused on experimenting with low ISO settings and keeping the camera lens as close as possible. The size of all photographs is kept consistent to conserve the quality of their color. Their size forces the viewer to get close and immerse into the image, notice all the subtle details, and read the intentions of each artwork.
